API Spec 10A for Oil Well Cement
API Spec 10A has been crafted by the American Petroleum Institute to standardize cements and materials used in well cementing applications. The standard defines requirements for six classes of well cement, including details of their physical and chemical properties and procedures for physical testing.
It applies to 6 classes of well cement – A, B, C, D, G and H. Classes A, B, C, and D are made by grinding Portland cement clinker with calcium sulfate as an additive. Class D cement may also include set-modifying agents.
Classes G and H are produced by grinding clinker with no additives other than calcium sulfate, water, or chemical additives needed for chromium (VI) reduction.
Benefits of Implementing API Spec 10A In Organization
1Guarantees Consistency, Quality and Safety of Drilling Operations by ensuring that well cements meet the rigorous performance standards.
2Protects ground water and other environmental resources by ensuring proper well cementing; thereby enabling isolation of, and prevention of fluid migration between, different underground formations.
3Demonstrates commitment to best practices by adhering to regulations that gain approvals in audits and are compatible with international standards such as ISO 10426-1, thereby garnering a global reputation in business.
4Establishes a standard for testing of well cement and its properties, thereby streamlining the selection process, improving operational efficiency and reducing downtime.
